Every year on March 10, National Women and Girls HIV/AIDS Awareness Day (NWGHAAD) is recognized and WestCare Georgia recently participated in a big way. I was proud to represent on behalf of The Woman’s Place, one of WestCare Georgia’s newest programs at two events in observance, Hats Off to Women and Birds, Bees and The Tea. Our program held an information booth at both events. Hats Off to Women is an annual Women and Girls HIV/AIDS Awareness Day event hosted by the Empowerment Resource Center. I was also honored to serve as one of four panelists for the Silencing the Stigma portion of the event. As part of this panel, I discussed the importance of PrEP and the stigma associated with it for Black women. I was also able to collaborate with local health departments in the area for the Birds, Bee and The Tea event where I was given the chance to talk about sex positivity and the importance of practicing safe sex.
