THE VILLAGE - VIRGIN ISLANDS PARTNERS IN RECOVERY

The Village - Virgin Islands Partners In Recovery has been serving the residents of the U.S. Virgin Islands for over 15 years. Although prominently based on the island of St. Croix, the program reaches out to the residents of St. Thomas, St. John, and other Caribbean neighbors. The Village-Virgin Islands became part of the WestCare family in 2003. The program is funded primarily by the U.S. Virgin Islands Department of Health and Human Services and the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA).

The Village-Virgin Islands is located on the historic grounds of Sion Hill Farms, a sugar mill once operated by slave labor in the 1700's. The site, which is located on top of a secluded and prominent hill overlooking the ocean, is replete with the architectural ruins and reminders of its important history. The site provides a home to residential care for persons faced with the challenges of overcoming their addictions.

The Village-Virgin Islands at Sion Hill hosts distinct programs especially tailored for adult males/females and a family program that includes mothers/fathers with their children. Individuals referred to the Village are taught the skills they need to return to family, friends and employment and to cope with life without a return to addiction.

• HIV/AIDS and Hepatitis prevention and education services
• Women's Aftercare Program

In addition to such residential services, The Village-Virgin Islands provides community-based prevention programs that include a Parenting Information Resource Center and the Solutions Improvisation Program, an innovative program for youths that allows for learning of peer resistance through role-playing and discussion groups.
