PIKEVILLE, Ky. - A free basic grant writing workshop will be offered by area organizations that will provide training in identifying funding, preparing and writing grant proposals on Tuesday, Aug. 15, 2006 from 1 - 4 p.m. in Room 125 of the Pikeville College Community Technology Center, 119 College Street.

Registration is required by calling the Pike County Chamber Office at 606-432- 5504 by Friday, Aug. 11, 2006. Please register early because seating is limited.

The training, "Grants 101 - Application Readiness and Writing the Grant Proposal," is designed to assist the beginning grant writer for nonprofit, small business, grassroots, community-based or faithbased organizations who have never written a grant or have only written a few, small applications. The instructor, William Stone, is Director of Special Projects for WestCare Foundation, Inc. and has 30 years of grant writing, resource and program development experience in Georgia, Florida and New York behavioral health and children's service organizations. He has successfully submitted grants on behalf of nonprofit social service agencies, research institutions, health care and government organizations to local, state and federal agencies, as well as corporate and private foundations during the course of his career, raising millions of dollars to help high risk, disabled and disadvantaged children, youth, adults and families.

Helpful materials, articles and resources will be distributed at the training workshop for participants. Individual technical assistance via phone consultation following the workshop with the instructor will be available for additional questions and suggestions.

The workshop is being cosponsored by the Pikeville Chamber of Commerce, Pikeville College and WestCare Kentucky as a public service to the community. WestCare Kentucky provides substance abuse treatment services in eastern and central Kentucky. WestCare opened a residential substance abuse treatment facility in August of 2005 with the capacity to serve 72 males in Pike County at their Ashcamp facility. While in long term residential substance abuse treatment, adult males receive counseling, relapse prevention education, anger management, parenting and cognitive behavioral therapy classes. WestCare devotes its best collective and individual efforts toward "uplifting the human spirit" in the community.
